VIETSTAR successfully organized the training course named “Best Practices of Corporate Governance Training: International Experience for State-owned Enterprises” for the leaders of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) in three days from April 16 to April 18, 2021. This was an opportunity for the Board of Directors and the Board of Management of BSR to exchange and share lessons from international experiences in corporate governance with experts, senior executives and lawyers from reputable corporations with both international and Vietnam economic environment experiences.
Training experts:
- Mr. John Antony – Board Advisor, Strategic Management Consultant, Consulting Partner & Director of Business Solutions Sdn Bhd, Former Assistant to the President of Singapore (1997 – 2001);
- Mr. Chor Ghee Lim – General Director of Tricor Vietnam, Chief Financial Officer of Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Business;
- Mr. Aloysius Wee – Chairman of ASEAN Law Association;
- Mr. Charles Lim – Senior Member of Singapore Board of Directors Research Foundation;
- Mr. Ooi Boon Hoe – CEO of Jurong Port;
- Mr. Kirby Zhang – Chairman & CEO of Technology Company, Independent Director of Lizhi Technology.
On BSR’s side, the participants were Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi-Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director Bui Minh Tien, members of the Board of Directors, General Directors, Directors of the Factory and leaders of a number of specialized committees.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi, Chairman of BSR Board of Directors, shared lessons in corporate governance of BSR at the Workshop.
The coordination between the Board of Directors and the Board of Management is a crucial and vital factor of the company, especially in the fierce competition environment and Covid-19 pandemic.
With the desire to improve corporate governance efficiency and strengthen the cohesion of members to create innovation in governance activities and devise strategies suitable for the “new normal”, this training course was developed by VietStar in order to share good practices and experiences in corporate governance, clarify the key roles and responsibilities of the Board of Directors in accordance with international practices, and propose solutions to improve efficiency and activities for State-owned enterprises.

The course emphasized the focus topics for the discussion with international experts including solutions to solve the problems of Covid-19 crisis as well as long-term challenges for the Board of Directors/Board of Management, experience in building development strategy, vision and core values of the Company, current issues facing the Board of Directors/Board of Management and most successful lessons applied by international companies.

The course took place very excitingly. Besides the above-mentioned focus contents clarified and deeply analyzed by experts, the delegates discussed the issues related to the economic and financial situation in the world, Southeast Asia and Vietnam and the development orientation of state-owned enterprises in general and BSR in particular.
The participants also shared a lot of lessons in talent planning and using, financial management, internal audit, risk assessment and control, transformation trends in energy, network security and management systems digitization, corporate crisis management, organizational culture building, and corporate sustainability and social responsibilities which are important factors in enhancing competitiveness, creating strong and steady motivation for companies to overcome crisis and develop sustainably.
